Five Steps to C.A.L.M. (Career and Life Managment)

Five Steps to C.A.L.M. (Career and Life Managment) by Robert Patterson Sr.

What was this book about?

This books gives anyone looking for a job the steps that you need to complete in order to get that job. It starts by having you look at what is it that you really want to do. It isn't about getting any job - but about getting a life fulfilling career.

It includes checklists, examples of resumes and cover letters, charts and examples of where to go to find out more information.

It isn't just a book you read - but more of a guide to get you started on your career plan.

What did you think about the book?
I will admit that I picked this book not for me -but for my husband who is actually in the process of starting his "career". He has a position but his recent graduation has forced him into finding his career.

It is a scary process looking for a job. It really is a lot about preparation and how you compose yourself. Qualifications get you in the door while the rest get you the actual job.

So for me I liked this book a lot. It had practical tips and was a quick read. I have looked at many job interview preparation books and haven't found anything quite like this. It isn't going to give you the top 100 questions you will get asked in an interview but instead focus on did you research the company? How are you composing yourself? Did you write a cover letter? Once you get the job how do you negotiate salaries?

The only thing that I (a computer junkie at heart) felt was missing was a section on the internet. I agree that networking is important - I don't know that if I was researching a company I would go to the library - I would first try a million internet sites. A library might be a better resource and we all know you can't believe everything you read on the internet but I also don't have to get out of my p.j.'s to do it.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone in your life who is starting their career exploration. It truly is as much about you - as the job that you are applying for.

What genre would you consider this?
Careers

Overall:
