What was this book about? Kyra is a timid piano teacher who decides to do something totally out of character. Get a job teaching the children of a Queen of another planet - a lizard planet called Darconia.

Kyra has no idea what she is in store for when she gets to the planet. It is hot and dry and has very little water. Something that humans definitely need. Once she arrives there Queen Scalia gives her something she doesn't know what to do with - one of her prized slaves. Queen Scalia likes to collect different species - unusual species and this is definitely one of those. He looks very much like a man but is part cat. And he drives Kyra wild with desire. What does that mean for her? Can she live on a planet like this?

What did you think about the book?
If you are looking for the normal run of the mill love story this book isn't for you. This book combines an extra terrestrial story with a hot and graphic sexual love story between Kyra and her cat-man Tychar.

I have to admit I wasn't sure what I would think of a love story like this that ties two different races (one closely tired with Tigers) together. But other then a few extra special sexual abilities Tychar (and his brother Trag) are much like any normal man.

The story is definitely different and inventive. A lizard planet. Political Power and war. Slavery vs. freedom. All sorts of topics are covered with the most interesting one being the relationship between Kyra and her man. Kyra is a nice person who you see grow sexually so that she becomes bold and sure of herself. And her relationship helped her do it.

What was this book about?

Josie is a graduate student with the perfect job. She is the nanny for a single doctor who has two children. One only a year old and the other in first grade. She has a special connection with the first grader and he loves her for it.

When Josie’s boss, Mary, invites over some other doctors she meets Devesh. It is awkward as Mary has a crush on him and yet he is interested in Josie. The relationship between Josie and Devesh progresses without Mary’s knowledge. Devesh and Josie enjoy playing games of sexual domination and submission – with Josie being punished over and over.

When that starts to cross the line into her everyday life Josie needs to make some decisions.

What did you think about the book?

Ok I really didn’t like this book. It is well written and the plot moves at a reasonable pace – and the character is very introspective and learns things about herself and her family and her past. Normally these things all combine to make a book that I think – wow – interesting. But in this case there was something in it that made me go – I don’t like this and I can’t encourage people to read it.

I have covered the plot above. I have no problems with the main character’s fetishes. I think the thing that bugs me a lot is her projection of them onto the children that she is nannying. She should not be in that position. If I was a mother and even guessed that the person who was watching my children (who was not me) was into that – I think even if they were great people I couldn’t allow them near my children (then again I am overly protective). If it is your thing that is fine – but I only know what is going in my head – not anyone elses – some people may be able to handle I and have distinct separate lives – while others cannot.

Josie’s character crosses the line and realizes it. Yet she remains in the situation. So it isn’t that the book is that bad – but more that it crosses a line for me. As soon as the book started I was thinking – I wish there were no children in this.

Wild Card by Lora Leigh

What was this book about?

Nathan and Sibella were in love from the start. But Nathan was a Navy SEAL and it was his duty to go out and save the world. One of his missions went terribly wrong and it left Sibella believing he was dead. Meanwhile he was fighting off the pain and damage that had been done to his body.

Nathan has become Noah Blake – his old name and life left firmly in the past. When a new mission has brought him back to his hometown and Bella he can’t stay away from her. Belle can’t know who he really is – but she has been living a life of danger – and been locked away in a haze of depression. She has started to move on, but how will Noah in her life change that? Can they be together after so many years apart? Will he leave her again?

What did you think about the book?

If you are looking for something with very hot and heavy sex scenes and a man that is combustible this is the book for you. Noah has a history that has made him border on crazy – from the drugs that were given to him to the violence. And that all plays out in this book.

I have to admit I appreciated the relationship of Nathan and Belle in that they both hid something at the beginning of their relationship. She was what she thought he wanted and he was what she wanted and in the end by not being the true person that they are – it destroyed their marriage. He didn’t think she was capable of finding out the truth. And also neither of them were getting as much fulfillment as they could have from being together (emotionally and sexually).

Overall I enjoyed this book and would be willing to read more by this author. I found it to be almost a new type of romance novel.

What was this book about?

Princess Meredith has accomplished what her aunt (the Queen of Light and Darkness) wanted her to - she is pregnant. With twins! By six different men! So you would think things were going to quiet down for Merry. Instead she was kidnapped and raped by her uncle so that he could tell everyone that he was the father.

All Merry wants is to live in peace with her men and her children. But everyone seems to be out to either kill her or capture her. Her magic is expanding and she is granting so many of the powers and lost things to those in faerie land.

Can she keep her men alive and cared for? Can they protect her and her children? Will the faerie accept Merry as their new queen?

What did you think about the book?

I love the world of Meredith Gentry. She has men, intrigue, love, mystery, and so much more all around her. This book was a great addition to the series. The last book I enjoyed but it wasn’t really all I was looking for. It seemed rushed and didn’t have enough in it. While this one has returned to everything I love about the series.

I have to admit that when I finished the book the first thing I did was check out the internet to see if this was going to be the last book in the series (cause if it was I was going to be very disappointed). The way the author ends the book it just seems as if this could be the last one. Thankfully on Laurell’s blog I found out that this wasn’t the case. The series will be going on and we will see everything we want from Merry and her fairy world in the future.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel when this main character was pregnant. I mean it is a hard line to walk between over sexual faerie lady and a pregnant woman. But I felt like things were handled very well in this book and I can’t wait to see what her two children – fathered by six men are like!

Blood Noir

Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Novel)

What was this book about?

Anita has a life that many others do not. She lives with several “boyfriends”, is the human familiar of the Master Vampire of the City, and is a Vampire Hunter. She has complicated relationships with everyone around her – especially the men.

When best friend and sometimes lover Jason Schuyler needs someone to come home to meet his parents he doesn’t even have to ask – Anita volunteers. Jason and his father have a complicated relationship where he has always believed that Jason was gay. So Jason needs someone to pretend to be his girlfriend.

Unfortunately, the return home has many more complications. Jason’s hometown has some secrets of its own and they threaten both Jason and Anita. Not only that but Marmee Noir, the mother of all vampires, is ready to see what she can do to get Anita under her power.

What did you like/dislike about the book?

The book is a decent story on its own. The only thing I would argue with was that I missed the interaction with all the other characters. This book is like “Jason’s Story” with little other forward movement on the overarching plot of Jean Claude, Nathaniel, Micah etc.

I missed the other characters. While it is always fun to see Anita and get a glimpse into her head – I wanted just a little more. Then again – I would always recommend the Anita Blake novels to anyone who likes vampires and is not afraid of some graphic non-traditional sex scenes.

Darkling by Yasmine Galenorn (Otherworld Book 3)


What was this book about?
Three sisters, all part fae-part human, each with their own talents must help protect earth and the otherworld from evil. There is Camille, a half witch. Second sister, Delilah, transforms into a tabby cat when she is under stress. Finally, there is Menolly, who after a horrible assignment gone wrong is turned into a vampire. Menolly (and her sisters) must find a way of stopping whatever is turning humans into vamps. They think Dredge, the vampire that originally turned Menolly in a very cruel way, may be to blame. They need to find Dredge and also see if he is in cahoots with Shadow Wing (the evil force that is threatening Earth and the Otherworld). They must defeat him before they can move on.

What was your favorite part about this book?
I like the Otherworld/Earth story. It is interesting (and viable if these things existed) to think that there would have to be some sort of governing body to keep these things in line. So the Otherworld Intelligence Agency seems like a reasonable step.

What was your least favorite part about this book?
I truly thought this series was a three book series. I don’t know what gave me that impression – but I did. It probably had to do with the fact that each sister had a book (in the first three books) then it looks like each sister gets another book. It is more of a rotating point of view, with each book telling part of a new story in their perspective. So knowing that would have helped. I thought they were going to have to rush the ending in order to get through everything.

What genre would you consider this?
Paranormal

Overall: B, I liked the first two books better.

Spoilers: If you want a classic romance this is not the series for you. It has lesbianism, group sex, and things of that nature mentioned in regards to the sisters relationships.
