The Book of Scandal

The Book of Scandal by Julia London

What was this book about?

Nathan Grey and his wife Evelyn have been separated since the death of their son drove them apart. Unable to deal with their misery together they found ways of dealing with it apart. For Evelyn that meant returning to London and becoming a ladies maid for one of the princesses. But it is difficult for Evelyn to reject the kindling of a new romance.

But Nathan is brought back to Evelyn when he discovers her name could be listed in the “Book of Scandal”. The Princess of Whales and the Prince have been estranged for years and it has come to her knowledge that she can provide some sort of examples of his debauchery through this book.

Evelyn does not want to return home a it is full of memories. But Nathan is going to get her back there if it means he has to kidnap her. He will not let his name or hers be brought into the kind of scandal that it will inevitably bring by letting her stay in London.

What did you think about the book?

A touch of history, albeit not all true and things moved around to make things work, is the most exciting part of this book. It was well written and it wasn’t that I didn’t like th story – I just couldn’t get into it. I think the one thing it did make me want to do – is more history reading on that point in time.

What genre would you consider this?
