Hostage to Pleasure

Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh

What was this book about?

It is 2080 and the world is made up of changlings, humans and the Psy. The Psy have special powers that are in several fields. Year ago the Psy race decided to implement “Silence” where every psy gave up their emotions. There are a subset of people that want the Silence to be broken.

Psy-M (medical powers), Ashaya Aleine seems to be the perfect Psy. She has no emotions. She also does secret experiments for those in charge. But she has come into contact with some changlings and has made them promise to do something for her (since she did something for them). Rescue her son.

It is soon figured out that Ashaya is more then the perfect Psy. She will do anything to break out of their world and keep her son safe – even if it means sacrificing herself. But it isn’t just the government after her – there is another dark secret that she is keeping.

Dorian Christensen lost his sister – Kylie to a psy psycho killer. He doesn’t trust them. He also has an imperfection that has haunted him for years, making him strive to be the best. He is a changling that can’t change.

Dorian first meets Ashaya and her son Keenan he feels an immediate bond. But he doesn’t trust Psy’s. Keenan is a child so he can let him – but not Ashaya.

Ashaya has left her work behind but she knows secrets about the Council and their plans of bioagents. But they aren’t the only ones who want control – the Human Alliance is rearing its ugly head as well.

What did you think about the book?

What a fun and interesting world. I mean to combine changlings, humans, and psychics in one world each dealing with the other race (and don’t forget to make it the future where anything is possible in terms of technology or the change of the world) is just amazing.

I liked this story and can’t wait to see where the overarching story takes us. I love these sort of books where you meet individual characters along the way. They never leave you and are in fact integral parts of the story of the newer characters. You feel like each story gets a complete conclusion but yet there is still something that makes you want to come back and find out more of what is going to happen in the larger picture.

It is so interesting to think of a world where there are no emotions. No happiness, no sadness. I don’t know what would make people strive to be the best, want to work?

What genre would you consider this?
Paranormal Romance

Overall:

Question for You!
If you could have any sort of Psy power what would it be and why?
