The Treasure

The Treasure by Iris Johansen

What was this book about?

Selene Ware, her brother-in-law, sister, and Kadar Ben Arnaud escaped from a world of danger and slavery. They are now in Scotland and have started new lives.

Kadar had to make promises in order for them all to escape with no harm. He would return once to do a single task. So when he is called back – he knows he must do it when they take Selene hostage as well.

Selene has known that her and Kadar have always been meant for each other. But the evil man who has them under his control would like nothing else but to make Kadar move over to the dark side. Selene isn’t going to let that happen. They will travel where they need to and get the treasure from Tarik if that is what is required. Neither Tarik nor the treasure is what it seems to be and they will find themselves embroiled in a new type of adventure.

What did you think about the book?

I wanted to get into this book. I had a hard time though. I don’t know if it was because from the start I couldn’t find a genre for it in my head. Was it a classic romance? It seemed to have a paranormal twist even though it wasn’t really said in the beginning. But I just wasn’t sure.

I didn’t think that the story was bad – it just took too long for me to get to the parts that I wanted. The exploration of the relationship between Selene and Kadar. What made them feel the way they did? What happened in their past? What was keeping them apart? I just wanted more of that and less of a drawn out process in finding out what was in Tarik’s box.

I don’t want to give too much away in terms of the book (in case you plan on reading it) but what is there leaves me with some interesting thoughts. The implications of having something of that sort is scary at best.

Also, I felt like this was book two in a three part series but as far as I could tell that wasn’t the case.

What genre would you consider this?

Romance

Overall:

Question for You!

What would be the biggest problem in living forever? Could you deal with living thousands of years – watching those closest to you die?

Johansen started out as a romance writer and it still shows even though she's thrown in some suspense. I still think of her as a romance writer. ( I'm not much of a romance fan....)
